Erskine loses to Newberry 16-6

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Playing under beautiful blue skies, the Erskine Flying Fleet (1-11) lost 16 to 6 to the Newberry College Wolves (5-7) this afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Huggins Field.

Newberry was effective in transition, often scoring or getting fouled before the Erskine defense could become completely set.  By intermission Newberry led by nine at 12 to 3.  Victoria Thomas led the Newberry assault, tallying two goals and assisting on two others.

In the second half Erskine did a better job slowing down Newberry but it limited the Fleet's scoring opportunities.  Erskine held Newberry to just four second half goals, but could only produce three goals.  Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) scored the first goal of the second half and Alexandria Butler (Hilton, NY, Hilton Central High School) added the other two goals.

Butler led the Fleet in scoring with 3 goals while Burns had two goals and an assist.

Erskine goalkeeper Konstandena Brown (Wilmington, NC, John T. Hoggard High School) recorded 17 saves on 37 shots, including 12 in the second half.

For Newberry, Jessica Baxtrom and Ajahna Grosvenor had a game-high 3 goals each.

Erskine hosts #4 ranked Florida Southern University this Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
