Box Score Tigerville, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (11-3, 8-1) ran their win streak to four games, blowing past the Crusaders of North Greenville University (7-11, 2-8) 3 to 0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) tonight in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action at Hayes Gymnasium.
In the first set, Erskine broke a 15 to 15 tie with a five point run then closed out the set with four straight points. Junior
Omar Melendez (San Juan, P.R., Colegio San Ignalio de Loyola) ignited the run with a kill and junior
Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School) served two aces.
Just like the first set, the Fleet concluded the second set with an impressive run, outscoring the Crusaders 10 to 4. Michelau had two kills and a service ace while junior
Neal Stanley (Apopka, FL, Apopka High School) added a kill and a block.
The Fleet's dominance carried over into the third and final set. With the game tied at 7 to 7, Erskine scored the next five points and won the set by six at 25 to 19. During the run, junior
Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) served two aces and Melendez knocked down a kill.
Sophomore
Roberto Perez (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) led the Fleet with 14 kills and Michelau finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs.
For the Crusaders, Matthew McManaway had 7 kills and 4 digs while Curtis Westra chipped in 6 kills, 3 digs and 3 blocks.
Erskine steps out of conference play to host IPFW this Monday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
