Box Score Hartsville, S.C. – A slow start this afternoon sent the Erskine Flying Fleet (1-10) to their ninth straight loss, falling 19 to 11 to the Cobras of Coker College in the non-conference women's lacrosse action at Byerly Field.
Coker scored the game's first eight goals and held on to defeat Erskine 19 to 11. Coker's Danielle Holcomb scored two of the first three goals and Haley McCusker tallied two more goals off free position opportunities. Erskine's
Megan McKinley (Bluffton, SC, Bluffton High School) ended the Coker run with a goal off a free position attempt.
After Coker's run, the Fleet stayed even with the Cobras, trading goals but could not cut into the eight goal lead. Erskine outscored Coker in the second half 7 to 6 despite playing a man down most of the period.
Coker controlled the pace and the ball for majority of the game, out shooting the Fleet 41 to 24.
Erskine was led by senior
Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School), who has surpassed the 200 career goals scored plateau, with 4 goals and an assist. McKinley and
Marley Llinas (Annapolis, MD, Broadneck Senior High School) had two goals each as well for the Fleet.
For the Cobras, both McCusker and Holcomb finished with 5 goals each. McCusker also had an assist.
Erskine will look to snap their losing skid next Wednesday against local rival Newberry College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
