Box Score Due West, S.C. – Playing their last non-conference opponent of the season, the Erskine Flying Fleet (9-15) lost to #12 ranked Dalton State Roadrunners (20-3) 68 to 49 tonight at Belk Arena.
After trading opening three-point baskets, the Fleet were within five points when the Roadrunners outscored the Fleet 14 to 2 over a three minute span. The only missed shot during the run was a free throw attempt by the Roadrunners. Erskine trailed at halftime 40 to 24.
Despite holding the Roadrunners scoreless from three-point range in the second half, the Fleet could not cut into the first half deficit, losing 68 to 49.
The Fleet had eleven players score on the night, led by freshman Nelson Spence's 10 points.
Spence (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) came off the bench to go 3 of 6 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from 3-point range. Freshman
Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy) scored 9 points and pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds despite giving several inches and pounds to his opponents.
Dalton State boosted three players 6'8 or taller across their front court. Besides altering several Fleet shot attempts, the Roadrunners won the battle on the boards 44 to 37. Roadrunners' Ladaris Green grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Roadrunners were led by Jamaine Burrey's 14 points and teammate Sean Tate contributed 12 points.
Erskine travels to play #7 regionally ranked King University this Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
