Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (16-11, 14-7) moved into a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings this afternoon with their 82 to 69 win over the visiting Crusaders of North Greenville (11-16, 10-11) at Belk Arena.
After exchanging buckets to start the game, senior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) put back a miss by teammate
Ashley Espinosa (Reading, PA, Governor Mifflin High School) to give the Fleet the lead for good at the thirteen minute mark in the opening period. Potter dominated the paint, scoring a game-high 26 points and pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds in the Fleet's victory.
After leading by five at halftime, Erskine extended their lead to double-digits on a couple of free throws and a short jumper by Potter.
In addition to Potter, the Fleet had three other players finish in double-figures. Sophomore point guard
Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Senior
Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) came off the bench to contribute 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.
For the Crusaders, Alisha Hope scored a team-high 18 points while Emily Wampler added 14 points.
Erskine is closing out the regular season on a strong note, winning their last three games in a row and five of their last six contests.
Erskine can secure the home court advantage in the opening round of the conference tournament on Tuesday with a win against a tough visiting Emmanuel College Lions. The Lions (17-8, 13-8) currently reside in fifth place, just a game behind the Fleet, in the standings. Tip-off on Tuesday is set for 5:30 p.m.
