Box Score Due West, S.C. – A seven minute scoreless stretch by the Erskine Flying Fleet (9-18, 5-14) resulted in a 52 to 41 loss to the Crusaders of North Greenville University (18-9, 11-8) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at Belk Arena.
After a dunk by freshman
Thomas Cameron (Atlanta, GA, Norcross High School), the Flying Fleet scored only three points, a 3-point basket by sophomore
Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School), over the next seven minutes that allowed the Crusaders to build a 16 point lead. The Crusaders' Micah Parker capped off the run with a steal and a layup.
The Fleet could not mount a counter run, playing even with the Crusaders the remainder of the game.
Freshman
Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy) led the Fleet with 15 points, going 6 of 11 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. Sophomore point guard
Thomas Nolan, Jr. (Columbus, OH, Canal Winchester High School) played well, handing out 4 assists without yielding a turnover.
The Crusaders were led by Spencer Reaves with 20 points. Reaves went 6 of 9 from the field, going an impressive 4 of 7 from long range. Senior Phillip Brown pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and handed out 5 assists from his post position.
In the first half, neither team led by more than five points as the lead exchanged hands five times.
North Greenville grabbed a four point lead at halftime thanks to a tip-in by Jai Jencks. Teammate Korval McElroy launched a deep 3-point shot that was well off the mark. Jencks reacted to tip-in the wayward shot at the buzzer.
Erskine will wrap up their regular season this Tuesday night against the Lions of Emmanuel College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the senior members of the both Erskine basketball teams will be recognized for their contributions.
