Scoreless drought results in 52-41 loss to NGU

Box Score Due West, S.C. – A seven minute scoreless stretch by the Erskine Flying Fleet (9-18, 5-14) resulted in a 52 to 41 loss to the Crusaders of North Greenville University (18-9, 11-8) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at Belk Arena.

After a dunk by freshman Thomas Cameron (Atlanta, GA, Norcross High School), the Flying Fleet scored only three points, a 3-point basket by sophomore Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School), over the next seven minutes that allowed the Crusaders to build a 16 point lead.  The Crusaders' Micah Parker capped off the run with a steal and a layup.

The Fleet could not mount a counter run, playing even with the Crusaders the remainder of the game.

Freshman Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy) led the Fleet with 15 points, going 6 of 11 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.  Sophomore point guard Thomas Nolan, Jr. (Columbus, OH, Canal Winchester High School) played well, handing out 4 assists without yielding a turnover.

The Crusaders were led by Spencer Reaves with 20 points.  Reaves went 6 of 9 from the field, going an impressive 4 of 7 from long range.  Senior Phillip Brown pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and handed out 5 assists from his post position.

In the first half, neither team led by more than five points as the lead exchanged hands five times.

North Greenville grabbed a four point lead at halftime thanks to a tip-in by Jai Jencks.  Teammate Korval McElroy launched a deep 3-point shot that was well off the mark.   Jencks reacted to tip-in the wayward shot at the buzzer.

Erskine will wrap up their regular season this Tuesday night against the Lions of Emmanuel College.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.  Prior to the game, the senior members of the both Erskine basketball teams will be recognized for their contributions.
