Box Score Wilson, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (9-16, 5-13) lost on the road to the Bulldogs of Barton College (13-13, 9-9) 63 to 44 tonight in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at Wilson Gymnasium.
Trailing by two points midway through the second half, Erskine completely lost their shooting touch, converting just one shot from the floor over the last nine minutes of play. Sophomore
Thomas Nolan, Jr. (Columbus, OH, Canal Winchester High School) buried a midrange jumper to bring the Fleet within two points at 40 to 38. At that point, the Fleet did not score another field goal until Addison Holmes' layup with 20 seconds left. The Fleet scored their other four points off free throw attempts.
Until the Fleet's scoring drought, the game was closely contested, featuring six lead changes and three ties. At halftime, Barton led 23 to 21 thanks to a 3-point basket by Jake Veasley to beat the buzzer. Veasley finished the game going 6 of 8 from long-range to score a game-high 24 points.
In the second half, Barton's lead was never greater than four points until the Fleet lost their shooting touch.
Eight players scored for the Fleet on the night, led by senior Deshaun Hall's 10 points. Freshman
Thomas Cameron (Atlanta, GA, Norcross High School) led the Fleet on the boards with 7 rebounds. He also chipped in 7 points.
Erskine wraps up their regular season at home. Erskine hosts in-state foe North Greenville University this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and ends their regular season against Emmanuel next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
