Box Score Due West, S.C. – In an intense defensive struggle, the Erskine Flying Fleet (4-7, 2-4) lost to the visiting Falcons of Pfeiffer University (5-6, 2-4) 50 to 45 tonight in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at Belk Arena.
Throughout the contest both teams labored to score. At halftime, the score was knotted at 17 to 17 with neither team shooting well. The Falcons shot 7 of 22 (32%) from the floor while the Fleet managed to go just 6 of 26 (23%).
In the second half, both teams continued to bring a defensive intensity to the hardwood. With neither team garnering a lead larger than seven points, the game remained in doubt until the final minute. Trailing by three, Erskine's
Arvel Atwater, Jr. (Capitol Heights, MD, Suitland High School) hit a jumper just inside the arc to pull the Fleet within one at 46 to 45 with a minute remaining. Pfeiffer worked the clock on their ensuing possession and pushed their lead back to three. The Fleet's last attempt to try the game was off mark. Pfeiffer converted both free throws to seal the win at 50 to 45.
Erskine was again led by senior
DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School), who tallied 16 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman
Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy) had a big night on the boards, pulling down a career-high 11 rebounds.
Pfeiffer's A.J. Clark led all-scorers with 21 points.
Erskine wraps up their four game home stand this Wednesday against the Tornado of King University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
