Lock's 31 points lead Fleet to victory

Box Score Belmont, N.C. – Freshman Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy) scored a new career-high 31 points as the Erskine Flying Fleet (8-11, 4-8) held off the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (1-18, 1-11) 83 to 80 in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at the Wheeler Center.

The Fleet never trailed in the second half as they built a one point halftime lead to as many as fifteen points in the second half before settling on the 83 to 80 victory.

The Fleet extended the lead to fifteen points midway through the second half.  Leading by two, the Fleet scored thirteen unanswered points.  Lock and senior DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) combined to score eight of those thirteen points.

The Fleet maintained their double-digit lead until the final two minutes.  The Abbey's Ray Chen drilled a 3-point shot and followed it up with two free throws to draw the Crusaders within seven points.  After the Fleet made one of two free throws, Chen hit another 3-pointer to trim the Fleet lead to five points.  Erskine converted four of four free throws down the stretch to preserve the 83 to 80 victory.

Lock went 12 of 16 from the floor, including a 2 of 4 from 3-point range, to score his career-high 31 points.  It is the seventh straight game that Lock has scored ten or more points.  Hall added 21 points, eleven of those points coming from the charity strip on twelve attempts.

Chen, who came off the bench, scored a team-high 29 points while handing out 5 assists and snagging 5 rebounds.

After playing the last four games on the road, Erskine returns to the friendly confides of Belk Arena this Wednesday to host the in-state conference foe Southern Wesleyan Warriors.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
