Box Score Franklin Springs, Ga. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (3-1, 1-0) opened conference play with 3 to 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-21) win over the Lions of Emmanuel College (0-3, 0-3) last night in men's volleyball action.
After a slow offensive start in the first set, the Flying Fleet hit .304 and .440 in the second and third sets respectively. The Fleet got stellar performances from sophomore
Roberto Perez Vargas (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) and junior
Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School). Perez pounded out a match-high 15 kills on 29 attempts while Michelau slammed 10 kills on 21 attempts. Defensively junior
Juan Varona (Toa Baja, P.R., Bayaman Military Academy) led the team on the back row with 8 digs.
Erskine limited Emmanuel to a measly .132 hitting percentage, including just .056 and .091 in the first and second sets. The Lions were led by Alex Barbosa's 7 kills.
Erskine plays at home for the first time this season on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Fleet hosts the Bulldogs of Barton College starting at 7:00 p.m. The next day the Fleet welcome the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive to Belk Arena. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
