Lock powers Erskine past College of Faith

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Behind a career-high 29 points by freshman Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy), the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-8) beat the Saints of the College of Faith 82 to 73 tonight in non-conference men's basketball action at Belk Arena.

The Fleet overcame an early five-point deficit to take a twelve point lead by intermission.  After turning the ball over on their first three possessions, freshman Chris Grandy (Laurel, MD, Chapelgate Christian Academy) rallied the Fleet with two baskets, including a nice tip-in after a miss by teammate Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School).  Grandy finished with 5 points and 3 rebounds in eight minutes of playing time.

The lead exchanged hands four more times before the Fleet closed out the opening period with a 14 to 1 run.  Lock sparked the Fleet run with back-to-back baskets and sophomore Brandon Wilkerson (Summerville, SC, Summerville High School) went 4 for 4 from the free throw line.  Wilkerson contributed 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 steals on the night.

The second half was a high scoring affair as both squads combined to score 91 points in the period.  The Saints managed to pull within three points twice but the Fleet never surrendered their lead.  Lock scored 18 of his 29 points in the half.

Lock was the only Fleet player to score in double-figures as Head Coach Mark Peeler played sixteen players in the game.

For the Saints, Chris Funderburk tallied a team-high 20 points while Juwaan Childs dominated the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Erskine will look to extend their win-streak to three games on Thursday when the Yellow Jackets of Allen University visit Belk Arena.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
