Box Score Gaffney, S.C. – With just seven seconds remaining, Erskine's
Brandon Wilkerson (Summerville, SC, Summerville High School) blocked Limestone's Shaq Dance's layup attempt to send the visiting Erskine Flying Fleet (5-8, 3-5) to a 58 to 55 victory over the Limestone College Saints (4-11, 4-4) tonight in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at the Timken Center.
With a little over a minute remaining, Dance completed an old-fashion three-point play to draw the Saints within one. Teammate Teron Wallace missed a 3-point shot attempt and Dance tipped in the rebound while drawing a foul. Dance converted the free throw to make the score 56 to 55.
After forcing a Fleet turnover, Limestone worked the clock for one final shot. Dance penetrated the lane but Wilkerson stepped up to block his layup attempt. Erskine's
DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) made two final free throws to achieve the final score of 58 to 55.
Erskine led for the majority of the game. After exchanging the lead several times to start the game, Erskine's
Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) drilled his first of two 3-point shots to give the Fleet a 15 to 13 lead. It would not be until the 7:15 mark in the second half that the Saints would reclaim the lead which the Fleet retook on their ensuing possession on a short jumper by freshman
Ray Lock (Aiken, SC, Oak Hill Academy) in the key.
Lock led the Fleet offensively with a game-high 18 points and 5 rebounds. Hall had a superb all-around game, contributing 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block.
For the Saints, Dance tallied 18 points and 5 rebounds while teammate Sommy Ogukwe had a game-high 12 rebounds along with 4 blocks.
With the win, Erskine snapped a three-game losing skid.
Erskine returns home to play non-conference foe, College of Faith, this Tuesday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
