Erskine crushes North Greenville 4 to 1

Box Score Due West, S.C- The Erskine Flying Fleet (3-1, 1-0) handed North Greenville Crusaders (0-3, 0-1) their third loss of the season by crushing them four to one in the first Conference Carolinas game of the 2014 season for both teams.

Less than a minute into the first half the Flying Fleet had a big opportunity to get an early lead when Silvio Braun's cross found Andrew Settlemire's head. A good save from the Crusaders goalkeeper denied Settlemire's fourth goal of the season.

The Flying Fleet kept bombarding the Crusaders goal, and in the 10th minute Joe O'Neill (Lichfield, United Kingdom, Friary High School) smashed the ball from 30 yards into the bottom left corner.

After 15 more minutes of domination from the Flying Fleet, the Crusaders found a way through Erskine's defense and tied the game 1 to 1.

But the Flying Fleet did not want to let their supporters down, and juniorRoss Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E), the team captain, fought off a defender to get the ball into the back of the net after a free kick from Joe O'Neill.

The second half had just started when Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) got his fourth goal for the season off a cross from teammate Silvio Braun (Munich, Germany, Adolf Weber Gymnasium). Settlemire knows where the goal stands, and ten minutes later he scored his second goal of the game and fifth for the season.  Settlemire has now scored a goal in each of the Fleet's four games.

Due to severe weather, the start of the game was delayed one and a half hour. After a lot of mopping and sweeping Huggins Field was deemed playable.

Erskine men's soccer returns to action next Wednesday when they play archrival Anderson University.
