HOW IT HAPPENED
In Erskine's final game of the 2025 season, the Fleet hosted Belmont Abbey in what turned out to be an attack-minded shootout. Less than a minute in, the visitors went in front, meaning Erskine was playing from behind for most of the first half. However, the Fleet responded and defended well for the next 20 minutes before taking advantage of a counter attack on their first real chance of the day. In the 24th minute, Jorge Torres-Cortes broke free down the left side and set up Sean Jacobs, who's right-footed shot fired across goal and into the back of the net to draw the Fleet level. Belmont Abbey regained its lead in the 40th minute, but Erskine equalized again minutes later. With just seconds remaining in the half, Marcos Martinez Loureiro rolled the ball off to Torres-Cortes at the top of the box and he unleashed a low-driven shot with his left foot that nestled into the bottom corner to make it 2-2 after an exhilirating first half. The Fleet built on that momentum in the early stages of the second half, as Jacobs scored again in the 48th minute on an assist from Jahdai Prince to put Erskine in front for the first time, 3-2. However, the Crusaders took firm control of the play in the final half-hour and scored six unanswered goals to rally past the Fleet.

THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot by Belmont Abbey, 23 to 8, and the Crusaders had a 14 to 6 advantage in shots on target.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Following Friday's action, Erskine's 2025 season came to an end as the Fleet will not qualify for the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament. Erskine will turn its attention to the off-season and begin preparations for 2026.
