Roberto Perez Vargas (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) blasted a career-high 25 kills to power the Flying Fleet (19-6, 12-2) to a 3 to 1 victory over the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College (12-15, 4-10) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action at Williams Gymnasium.
The Flying Fleet dropped a close first set 25-23 then won the next three equally close sets 26-24, 25-23, and 26-24 to win the match.
In addition to Vargas, sophomore
Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) also recorded double-digit kills with 11. Sophomore
Omar Melendez (San Juan, P.R., Colegio San Ignalio) had another efficient night, knocking down 7 kills on 13 attempts while participating in 7 of the team's season-high 13 blocks.
The Bobcats were led by Matt Harpenau's 24 kills and game-high 8 blocks. Kevin Morrison contributed 10 kills.
This game concludes the regular season for the Flying Fleet. Erskine's next match will be in the semi-final round of the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament next Saturday. Erskine, who enters the tournament as the #1 seed, will play the winner between #4 seed Limestone and #5 Barton College.
