Gaffney, S.C. - #30 Limestone College (9-7, 4-3) topped the Erskine Flying Fleet (2-14, 1-5) 7 to 2 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action at the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center.
Erskine found themselves trailing 3 to 0 early after the doubles matches. Erskine lost two tough matches at #1 and #3 doubles. Erskine's
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) lost 8 to 6 at #1 doubles while
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) also lost by the same score at #3 doubles.
In the six singles competition, both Harris and Mathewes prevailed in their respective matches to secure the Fleet's two points. Mathewes triumphed in straight sets while Harris overcame an early loss in the first set to edge his opponent in the next two sets 6-4 and 10-8.
Erskine's schedule match against Wingate on Monday has been cancelled so the Fleet's next match is against archrival Anderson University on Wednesday.
