Catawba slips by Erskine 14 to 12

Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Catawba College Indians (5-6) slipped by the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-6) 14 to 12 this afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Huggins Field.

After falling behind by two goals early in the opening period, the Flying Fleet scored the period's last four goals to take a 9 to 7 lead at intermission.  Freshman Ali Cole (Duluth, GA, Duluth High School) hit Kelly Dalziel (Ocean, NJ, Ocean Township High School) crossing the middle who quickly blasted a shot past the Catawba goalkeeper.  Two minutes later Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) scored her third of five goals on the day to tie the game at 7 all with 3:18 left to play.  With just 1:26 remaining, Sarah Tibbits (Marietta, GA, Sprayberry High School) gave the Fleet their first lead of the game and Ashlee Williams (Martinez, GA, Lakeside High School) drew a foul in the final seconds to tally the Fleet's last goal on a free position shot.

Coming out of the locker room, Catawba scored two goals to tie the game at 9 to 9 then outscored Erskine 5 to 3 over the last twenty minutes to win the game.  The Indians final goal came against an open net as Coach Dachille pulled his goalkeeper in an effort to steal the ball from Catawba. 

Burns led the Fleet with a game-high 5 goals while Tibbits and Dalziel added two each.  Cole assisted on three goals and tallied another one.

Catawba was led by Ashley Corace's 4 goals.  Ebony Mills and Nicolette Salay scored 3 goals each.  Mills also assisted on two other goals.

Erskine returns to conference play this Saturday against Pfeiffer University.  Game time is at 12:00 p.m.
