First Winning Season! Erskine beats Wingate 16-11

Box Score Wingate, N.C. – With their 16 to 11 win over Wingate today, the Erskine Lacrosse Team (9-7, 2-4) secured the program's first winning season since the program began in 2008.

Erskine never trailed in the game as the Fleet tallied the game's first three goals and built their lead to seven by halftime at 11 to 4.  Freshman Ali Cole (Duluth, GA, Duluth High School) assisted or scored on the Fleet's first three goals.  For the first goal, Cole found junior Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) cutting to the goal then a minute later fed Cory Hunteman (Annapolis, MD, Broadneck Senior High School) inside, who rocketed the ball past the Wingate goalkeeper Aubrian Tuttle for the Fleet's second goal.  Cole scored the Fleet's third goal beating her defender and slipping the ball past the goalkeeper.  Cole finished the day with three goals and four assists.

Erskine built their lead to eleven in the second half and, at that point, Coach Bob Dachille cleared his bench.  Wingate scored the game's last six goals to make the final score 16 to 11.

Burns led all-scorers with 7 goals.   Hunteman had three goals while Kelly Dalziel (Ocean, NJ, Ocean Township High School) had two goals.

Wingate's Logan Bounds and Laura Swanson had 5 goals each to lead the Bulldog attack.

With their win on Thursday against LMC, Erskine has clinched the #5 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament.  Depending on today's results, Erskine will play either Belmont Abbey or the University of Mount Olive this Tuesday.
