Belmont, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (3-15, 2-15) defeated the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College (2-13, 1-6) 7 to 2 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action.
Erskine quickly grabbed an early 3-0 lead by winning all three of the doubles matches to start the match.
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) proved again to be a tough duo, winning for the eleventh time this season 8 to 2.
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) also triumphed at #2 doubles 8-3 while
Andre Andre (Setubal, Portugal) and
Robert Clarke (Due West, SC, Belton-Honea Path High School) won by default at #3 doubles.
Erskine claimed four of the six singles matches to win the match 7-2. Mathewes extended his personal win streak to eight games with a straight victory.
Erskine will wrap up their regular season this Wednesday against North Greenville University starting at 3:30 p.m.
Prior to the match, Erskine will recognize senior Jack West as well as Head Coach Vardon Cox.
