Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) scored a single-game record 8 goals in the Erskine Flying Fleet's 19 to 7 victory over the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action at Huggins Field.
After surrendering a goal in the game's first minute, Erskine scored eight unanswered goals. Burns led the charge, tallying five goals while teammate
Ali Cole (Duluth, GA, Duluth High School) contributed two goals and assisted on two of Burns' goals. By halftime, the Fleet held a commanding 11 to 3 over the Bobcats and added eight more goals in the second half.
Erskine's defense limited Lees-McRae to just 15 shots in the game and killed three of the four Bobcats' extra-man opportunities.
In addition to her eight goals, Burns also contributed two assists giving her ten points in the game, also a new school record.
Cole continued her stellar play, scoring 5 goals and assisting on 4 other goals. Fellow freshman
Cory Hunteman (Annapolis, MD, Broadneck Senior High School) notched three goals.
The Bobcats had six players score a goal, led by Taylor Drake's two goals.
Erskine concludes their regular season this Saturday travelling to play Wingate University. Game time is set for noon.
