Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (2-15) lost to archrival Anderson University (8-7) 5 to 4 yesterday in non-conference men's tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex.
After winning two of the three doubles matches, Erskine could only take two of the six singles matches from Anderson.
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) continued their torrid doubles play, topping their Anderson opponents 8-5. Later
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) won a hotly contested match 9 to 7.
Both Harris and Mathewes won their singles matches. Harris pounded his opponent in straight sets while Mathewes won in three sets after losing his second set. Anderson claimed #5 and #6 singles matches in straight sets. The decisive fifth point was decided at #4 singles where Andre Andre dropped a nail-biter third set 6 to 4.
Erskine will travel to Belmont Abbey on Saturday for their next match.
