Due West, S.C. – The conference-leading Erskine Flying Fleet (12-5, 8-1) travels to play the second place Pfeiffer University Falcons (8-8, 5-2) Monday night at the Merner Gym. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Picked to finish fourth in the coaches' preseason poll, Erskine has already completed their two-game regular series with preseason #1 University of Mount Olive and #3 Limestone College. The Flying Fleet split their series matchup against the Trojans and swept the Saints. The only two games remaining against a top-rated foe are against Pfeiffer University. A win Monday night pushes Pfeiffer to two games back and places Erskine firmly in control of winning their first-ever conference regular season title with only four conference games remaining.
Erskine currently owns an eight game winning streak. Their streak began with a win against Limestone back on February 18
th and was extended on Saturday with the Fleet's comeback win over the Bobcats of Lees-McRae.
Pfeiffer enters Monday's contest having not played in over a week. The last time the Falcons took the court was back on March 2 at the Coker Invitational. Pfeiffer split their two games in the tournament falling to Sacred Heart University 3-0 while beating host Coker College 3-0.
Pfeiffer, who trails only the Fleet in kills per set, uses a balanced attack with five players averaging better than two kills per set, led by outside hitter Sonny Hirini's 3.37 kills per set. Fellow outside hitter Michael Brewer is not far behind averaging just a shade under three kills per set at 2.97.
