Box Score Due West, S.C. – After losing first set, the Erskine Flying (12-5, 8-1) won the next three sets to defeat the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 3 to 1 in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action at Belk Arena. With the win, Erskine extended their streak to a team-record 8 games.
Erskine's vaulted offense struggled through the first set but came alive in the next three sets to win the match. In the first set, Erskine struggled mightily, committing an uncharacteristic 10 attack errors for a zero hitting percentage. Erskine lost the first set 25 to 18.
Over the next two sets, Erskine knocked 31 kills while limiting the Bobcats to just 16 kills, including just six kills in the second set. Erskine won both sets by the same score of 25 to 19.
Erskine's offense slowed down in the fourth and final set but defensively Erskine held Lees-McRae to a negative hitting percentage to win the set 25 to 21.
Sophomore
Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School) drilled a game-high 13 kills while fellow sophomore
Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) contributed 10 kills, 4 service aces, 3 blocks and 8 digs. Sophomore setter
Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) handed 39 assists along with 5 kills and 5 digs.
Lees-McRae got 12 kills each from Matt Harpenau and Brady Markle. Josh Cothron had strong defensive effort at the net with 6 blocks.
Erskine travels to Pfeiffer University on Monday. This game was originally scheduled to be played back on February 12
th but was postponed due to inclement weather.
