Erskine loses to Belmont Abbey 7 to 4

Box Score Belmont, N.C. – On a cold, rainy morning, the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-5, 0-3) narrowly pulled a upset on the road over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (7-3, 3-1) losing 7 to 3 in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action at Alumni Field.

The Flying Fleet surprised the Crusaders scoring the game's first two goals and led 4 to 2 at halftime.  Junior Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) tallied the Fleet's first goal in the few two minutes of play.  Freshman Ali Cole (Duluth, GA, Duluth High School) put the Fleet up 2-0 with 23 minutes remaining in the opening period.  After a goal by the Crusaders, Burns and Cory Hunteman (Annapolis, MD, Broadneck Senior High School) added the Fleet's last two goals.  BAC's Kassie Easter scored the half's last goal to make the score 4 to 2.

The Crusaders stymied the Fleet attack in the second half, limiting the Fleet to just four shots.  Erskine also had difficulty transitioning the ball in the second half, only clearing the ball from their defensive end four times on eleven opportunities.

The Fleet also had three goals recalled due to stick violations in the game.

Erskine goalkeeper Konstandena Brown (Wilmington, NC, John T. Hoggard High School) yielded the 7 goals on 23 shots while recording 10 saves.

Katy Connery scored a game-high 3 goals to lead the Crusaders.

Erskine will host Catawba this Wednesday starting at 4:00 p.m.  Admission is free to all home Erskine Lacrosse games.  For fans unable to attend, the game may be followed via live stats and/or video.
