Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Men's Volleyball Team (15-6, 9-2) desires a huge crowd for their final home game of the regular season Thursday night against in-state foe Coker College at Belk Arena. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Flying Fleet just had their longest win streak in the program's history, 11 games, snapped Tuesday night by the visiting Falcons of Pfeiffer University. The game was decided in the 5
th set on the match's last two points as Pfeiffer won the set 16 to 14 to claim the 3-2 victory. Prior to that the Fleet's last lost was also at home and decided in five sets, a 3-2 loss to the University of Mount Olive back on February 15
th.
Both
Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School) and
Roberto Perez Vargas (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) had a tremendous game against the Falcons, knocking down 18 and 21 kills respectively. For Vargas, the 21 kills was a career-best while Michelau also had 11 digs to earn his fourth double-double of the year.
Coker (8-18) enters tomorrow's night contest having won four of their last five games. Coker defeated fellow Conference Carolinas member Barton College 3-0 on Tuesday in their last home game of the season. After tomorrow's game, Coker will play two games at Warner University next week.
While the Cobras lack a big-time hitter, the Cobras do have four players who average better than two kills per set. Outside hitter Jared Geizer leads Coker averaging 2.62 kills per set while teammates Luke Hansen, Arthur Cabral, and Leshon Alexander are not fair behind averaging 2.48, 2.39 and 2.21 kills per set.
After the match, fans are invited to stay to hear about the team's experiences at the
DreamCenter during spring break. The team spent five days working through the DreamCenter to minister to people in and around the infamous skid row of Los Angeles.
