Box Score Mount Olive, N.C. – Junior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) posted her third consecutive double-double with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds but it was not enough as the #6 Erskine Flying Fleet fell on the road to the #3 Trojans of the University of Mount Olive 87 to 76 this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship Powered by OrthoCarolina at the Kornegay Arena.
With the game tied at 21 to 21, Mount Olive scored thirteen unanswered points and lead by ten at intermission. Erskine has several good scoring opportunities during the run but could not convert.
Erskine opened the second half with an 11-2 run. Freshman
Marnasha Eugene (Lithonia, GA, Stephenson High School) scored the half's first basket off a nice pass from fellow freshman
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) then made back-to-back entry passes to Potter, who scored both times.
Erskine took the lead a short time later as freshman
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) converted an old-fashion 3-point play to put the Fleet up 47 to 46.
Mount Olive put together another run to re-establish their lead back to double-digits and won the game 87 to 76.
In addition to Potter's double-double, Eugene filled the stat sheet nicely with 19 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and two steals. Stuger contributed 18 points and 8 rebounds.
In 27 games this season, Potter posted a double-double in 9 of those games.
The Trojans had five players finish in double-figures, led by Kirksten Mitchell's 22 points. Jasmine McDonald posted a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists while teammate Ty Wallace had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Erskine concludes their season with a winning record of 14-13 after only winning three games last year and failing to qualify for the conference tournament.
