Rocky Mount, N.C. – The Erskine Men's Tennis Team (0-4, 0-1) lost their conference opener to the Barton College Bulldogs 6 to 3 this afternoon at the Belmont Farms Racquet Club.
Erskine claimed one point in doubles play before moving on to the six singles matches. Erskine's
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) topped Barton's #1 doubles pair Rafael Ruiz and Jake McCartney 8 to 6. The Fleet lost the other two doubles matches by the same score of 8-3.
In singles play,
Andre Andre (Setubal, Portugal) and
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) prevailed over their foes 8 to 2 and 8 to 3 respectively.
Due to rain in the area, the match was moved indoors to the Belmont Farms Racquet Club in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, which only has three indoor courts. Consequently, due to time constraints, the two teams agreed to play one set matches instead of the normal three set matches in the singles competition.
Erskine will remain on the road to play the University of Mount Olive tomorrow starting at 10 a.m.
