Florence, S.C. – The Erskine Men's Tennis Team fell to #17 Francis Marion University 8 to 1 this afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Kassab Courts.
Erskine quickly fell behind losing the three doubles matches. The Fleet almost claimed a point at #1 doubles.
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) and
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) narrowly upset FMU's doubles pair of Tim Ruepke and Marius Wahlier, losing 8 to 6.
Erskine lost five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Mathewes claimed the lone point for the Flying Fleet, winning a marathon match. After losing his first set 6 to 2, Mathewes won the second set 7-6 (10-5) then the tie breaker 11 to 9.
Erskine stays on the road to play conference foe Barton College tomorrow afternoon. The game is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
