Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) scored a game-high 36 points as the Erskine Flying Fleet (13-9) topped the Allen University Yellow Jackets 81 to 72 tonight in non-conference men's basketball action at Benedict College.
After a slow start, Erskine closed out the first half on a 17 to 5 run to take a 48 to 30 lead into the locker room at intermission. The run was highlighted by three 3-point baskets by senior
Jake Haslam (Lithia, FL, Tampa Preparatory School). Haslam finished with 15 points on the night.
Erskine led by double-digits through most of the second half as Head Coach Mark Peeler worked in many of his players.
Perkins finished with a double-double of 36 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior
Adison Lawrence (Greer, SC, Eastside High School) contributed a second straight double-digit performance with 10 points. He also had 7 rebounds. Senior
Chris Gore (Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Beach High School) grabbed 12 rebounds while rejecting six shots. Senior point guard
Justin Cofer (Evans, GA, Greenbrier High School) had a solid performance filling in for the injured guard Mike Gabbard, handing out 9 assists to just one turnover.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Deangelo Anthony's 25 points.
Erskine returns home for their next contest on Wednesday when the Saints of Limestone College visit Belk Arena. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
