First half woes haunt Erskine in 60-48 loss to UMO

Box Score Mount Olive, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (12-10, 7-7) scored just 13 first-half points in the in route to a 60 to 48 road loss to the University of Mount Olive Trojans (15-7, 10-4) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at the Kornegay Arena.

After scoring the game's first bucket, Erskine tallied just four more points over the next fifteen minutes falling behind 28 to 6.  Freshman Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) finally broke the Fleet's scoring drought with a layup off a steal by teammate Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School).  Erskine shot just 5 of 30 from the field, including missing all eleven of their 3-point attempts.

In the second half, Erskine whittled away at the lead but the first half deficit was just too great.

Junior Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) posted her fifth "double-double" of the season with a game-high 16 points and a game-high16 rebounds.  Hendrix finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds while sophomore Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) came off the bench to contribute 14 points.

For the Trojans, Jasmine McDonald and Joneiqua Gray both scored 14 points.  McDonald also had a team-high 7 rebounds.

Erskine will look to snap their three-game losing skid on Wednesday against the visiting Saints of Limestone College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
