Erskine stumbles against UMO, losing 3-2

Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (4-5, 4-1) stumbled against the University of Mount Olive Trojans (6-7, 5-3) this afternoon, losing 3 to 2 (25-14, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 15-12) in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action.  It is the first conference loss for the Flying Fleet.

After posting their best hitting percentage of the season last night, Erskine struggled today, committing 41 attack errors as well as 19 service errors, most coming in the first two sets.  After dropping the first two sets, Erskine had a negative hitting percentage.  The Fleet rebounded to take the next two sets but fell short in the decisive fifth set 15 to 12.

In the matchup of the league's top two hitters, Erskine's Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School) outperformed his counterpart Angel Dashe, tying a season-high with 25 kills along with 10 digs.  For Michelau, it was his third double-double of the season.  Dashe led the Trojans with a 16 kills and 9 digs. 

Erskine setter Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) recorded his first double-double of the year with a game-high 55 assists and a season-high 20 digs.  Freshman Roberto Perez Vargas (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) had a career-day, knocking down a career-high 18 kills along with a career-high 9 digs.

Erskine will go on the road for their next match to face in-state conference foe the Saints of Limestone College on Tuesday, February 18th at 7:00 p.m.
