Erskine quickly dispatches Barton 3-0

Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (4-4, 4-0) wasted little time in dispatching the Barton Bulldogs tonight 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-16) in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action at Belk Arena.

The only set Barton seriously threatened was in the second set.  After taking an early lead, Erskine found themselves trailing 15 to 12 midway through the set.  With the game tied at 23 apiece, Erskine scored the set's last two points on kills by Omar Melendez (San Juan, P.R., Colegio San Ignalio) andMike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School).

Erskine setter Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) directed an efficient offense that recorded 46 kills on a season-high .468 hitting percentage.  Marks finished with a game-high 40 assists.  Michelau knocked down a game-high 16 kills along with a team-high 7 digs while freshman Roberto Perez Vargas (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) and Melendez had 9 and 8 kills respectively.

Barton had three players finish with 8 kills each.

With the win, Erskine remains perfect in conference play at 4-0.

The Fleet host the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
