Erskine Men's Volleyball hosts two home conference matches this weekend

Due West, S.C. – After having their midweek game against Pfeiffer University postponed, the Erskine Men's Volleyball Team hosts two conference foes this weekend.  On Friday night, the Flying Fleet host the Bulldogs of Barton College starting at 7:00 p.m. and, on Saturday, welcome the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive to Belk Arena beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The Flying Fleet (3-4, 3-0) enter the two weekend contests with the conference's best offense.  Erskine leads the league in kills per set (12.96), assists per set (12.29), and points per set (16.3).

The Fleet have two players ranked in the Top 10 in kills per set while freshman Roberto Perez Vargas (Dorado, P.R., Bayamon Military Academy) is just outside the Top 10 in 11th place.  Sophomore Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School)currently ranks second in kills per set (4.33), just .005 behind leader Angel Dache of Mount Olive, while fellow classmate Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) currently sits in 8th, averaging 3.33 kills per set.

Sophomore setter Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) leads the league in assists per set at 11.62.

This is the second time for the Flying Fleet to play both Barton and Mount Olive.  Erskine defeated Barton 3-0 and Mount Olive 3-1 back on January 24th and 25th respectively.

Barton (3-7, 2-5) arrives in Due West having just snapped a four-game losing skid by topping Lees-McRae in five sets 3-2.
The Bulldogs are led by junior outside hitter Zach McCalla, who averages 3.29 kills per set.  Freshman Chad Stanback, who plays opposite of McCalla on the rightside, is second on the team, averaging 2.39 kills per set.

Defensively, the Bulldogs possess the league leader in digs per set and have two players who are in the Top 10 in blocks.  Libero Michael McMahon leads the conference in digs per set at 3.46.  At the net, Tanner Medina and Ladislav Lelkes are seventh and eighth in the league in blocks per set at 0.96 and 0.95 blocks per set respectively.

Mount Olive will play Limestone on Friday prior to arriving at Belk Arena.  Currently the Trojans (4-7, 3-3) just had three-game win streak broke by conference rival Pfeiffer University, losing 3-1.

Saturday's contest will feature the top two hitters in the league in Dache and Michelau.  Dache, who averages 4.38 kills per set, leads the conference in kills per set.  He is joined by two teammates Garret Dimm and Steven Cruse who average 2.72 and 2.49 kills per set respectively.
