Erskine wins behind Hall's double-double

Box Score Due West, S.C. - The Erskine Flying Fleet (2-4, 2-1) earned an eight point victory over the visiting Barton Bulldogs (4-4, 1-2) tonight at Belk Arena.

The Fleet jumped out to an early lead with good starts from DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) and Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School). Both ended the night with season-highs tonight, Hall with 23 points and Daniels with 19.  Hall also had a game-high 11 rebounds to earn his double-double of the year.

Halfway through the half, the Fleet led 19 to 12. The Bulldogs came away with 2 consecutive steals to trim the lead to 23-18, forcing Erskine Head Coach Mark Peeler to call a timeout.   Coming out the timeout, Barton continued their run, draining three consecutive shots to draw within one.  Erskine held off Barton's first half rally to take a 44 to 42 into the locker room at intermission.

Out of the half, the Fleet jumped out to an early 6-2 run making Barton call a timeout in an effort to slow down the Fleet momentum.  The Bulldogs responded tying the game at 54 on a three-pointer by Daniel Westbrook and eventually led by five points midway through the second half.

With 6:45 left in the game, Daniels converted an old-fashion three point play to put the Flying Fleet up by one at 64 to 63.  The Fleet never trailed again and eventually led by as many as ten points before winning 80 to 72.

Erskine travels to Charlotte, North Carolina next Saturday to play the College of Faith.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
