Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (3-4) used a complete team effort to slay the Saints of the College of Faith (0-8) 106 to 63 this afternoon at Belk Arena in non-conference men's basketball action.
The Fleet never trailed in the game as all sixteen players got into the game, including fourteen players in the first half. After swapping baskets to open the contest, Erskine used an 8 to 2 run to take a lead they would never relinquish. Sophomore Thomas Nolan sparked the Fleet's scoring run with six points, including a three-point basket. The Fleet took a commanding 57 to 28 lead into the locker room at intermission.
Erskine Head Coach Mark Peeler continued to use his bench extensively in the second half. The Fleet outscored the Saints 49 to 35 in the closing period.
Freshman D.J. Alexander poured in a career-high 17 points while pulling down 6 rebounds to lead the Fleet. Fellow freshman Chris Grandy went a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor to tally 11 points while sophomore Arvel Atwater had 10 points. In all, fifteen Erskine players scored today.
The Saints were led by Trashawn Gregory's 20 points and 8 rebounds. Teammate Chris Funderburk had 19 points.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Charlotte but was moved to Erskine on Tuesday.
Erskine travels to play archrival Anderson University on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m.
