Box Score Central, S.C. – Trailing by four at halftime, the Erskine Flying Fleet (3-3, 1-1) shot 57% in the second half to blow out the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University (1-3, 0-2) 90 to 68 tonight in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at Tysinger Gymnasium.
SWU led by eleven points midway through the opening period before the Fleet began their comeback. SWU's Chelsie Waters and Cayse Branyon converted both their free throws to put the Warriors up by eleven. After exchanging baskets, the Fleet slowly whittled away at the Warriors lead to trail by four at intermission.
After shooting a solid 38% in the first half, the Flying Fleet caught fire offensively, shooting a blistering 57%, including 5 of 8 from three point range, to pick up the conference road win.
The Fleet opened the second half with a 9-0 run. Sophomore
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) sparked the run with nice move in the paint and senior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) followed with two baskets of her own from within the key.
The Fleet never trailed again as they built their lead to double-digits. Potter led the Flying Fleet with 28 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Stuger contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds while sophomore
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) had 17 points. Sharpshooter
Ashley Mull (Belmont, NC, South Point High School) came off the bench, going 3 of 7 from long range, to score 11 points.
The Warriors had three players score in double-digits, led by Bri Seda's 13 points. Brooke Strickland and Kristen Smith both scored 11 points.
The Flying Fleet return to action next Monday at home against the Pacers of USC-Aiken. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
