Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (5-4-2, 2-1-2) fought to a 2 to 2 tie with the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College (2-6-3, 1-4-1) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action at Huggins Field.
After scoring the game's first goal, Erskine got a goal in the 77
th minute by
Jonathan Clark (Aberdeen, Kincorth Academy) to knot the game at 2 to 2 and force overtime. Erskine's
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) capitalized early, settling his own rebound to put the Fleet up 1 to 0. Settlemire accepted a pass at the six yard line, pivoted and fired. Belmont Abbey's goalkeeper Alex Trujillo who anticipated the shot, charged at Settlemire and blocked his shot. Fortunately, the deflection bounced back to Settlemire, who moved around Trijillo and blasted another shot into the empty goal. For Settlemire, it was his 8th goal of the season.
The Abbey tied the game shortly before halftime and added another goal ten minutes into the second period. Trujillo kept the Fleet off the board with several spectacular saves.
With thirteen minutes remaining, Erskine's
Luke Boyce (Bungay, Suffolk, Bungay High) struck a corner kick perfectly to a running Clark who headed the pass off the right post into the goal to tie the game at 2 to 2. For Clark, it was his first goal of the season.
In the second overtime, Belmont Abbey claim within a second of scoring the game-winning goal. With 6.7 seconds remaining, the Crusaders launched a corner kick that appeared to result in the game-winning goal. However, the officials ruled time had expired before the goal had been scored.
Overall the Flying Fleet held a slight advantage on shots at 21 to 15.

Fiore Costa (Niagara Falls, Ontario, St. Paul Catholic Secondary School) recorded 7 saves while Trujillo finished with 8 saves.
The Fleet will travel to Central, South Carolina, on Wednesday to face conference newcomer Southern Wesleyan University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
