Lees-McRae holds off Erskine 75-74; ends win streak at four

Box Score Banner Elk, N.C. – Lees-McRae (5-8, 2-2) hung on to defeat Erskine (6-5, 2-2) 75 to 74 tonight in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at Williams Gymnasium.  The loss ends a four game win streak for the Flying Fleet.

Despite the holding the Bobcats scoreless the final three minutes of the game, the Flying Fleet could not regain the lead before time expired.

Trailing by six with a little over three minutes to play, Erskine's Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) scored the Fleet's final five points to pull within a point.  Bannerman trimmed the lead to four on two free throws and then within a point after converting an old-fashion three-point play.  Unfortunately, Erskine failed to convert on their final three possessions falling 75 to 74.

Bannerman finished with her second double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.  She also had 2 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals to fill up the stat sheet.  Since returning from break, Bannerman has been on a tear, averaging a double-double of 13.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

Freshman Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) contributed 16 points and 7 rebounds while fellow freshman Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) had 14 points.

Lees-McRae was led by their front-court duo of Alyssa Munson and Kerri Belcher.  Munson scored a game-high 20 points and had 7 rebounds while Belcher finished with a double-double of 19 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.  Belcher also had 5 steals on the night.

Erskine will look to bounce back this Saturday when the Valkyries of Converse College visit Belk Arena.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
