Due West, S.C. – The winners of their last two games, the Erskine Men's Basketball Team (7-4, 2-1) faces a tough road game tomorrow night against the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Bobcats (6-6, 1-1) enter tomorrow night's competition having won three of their last five contests, including a 78 to 73 road win over conference foe King University. As Fleet fans may recall, King defeated the Flying Fleet at home back on December 4
th. In addition, one of their two losses was to division I foe High Point University that counted as an exhibition game.
The Bobcats have four players averaging double-figures in scoring, by freshmen guard Mike Chambers' 18.8 points per game. Chambers is deadly shooter, converting on 42% of his shots, including 37.3% from 3-point land. Senior point guard Darius Smith handles the ball well, handing out over 4 assists while averaging 10 points per game. In the front court, Darryl Bond leads the Bobcats averaging 11.3 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game.
To this point, Erskine has played well on the road, knocking off pre-season favorite Barton College 87 to 72 for their last road victory. Sophomore
Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) now leads the conference in scoring at 25.7 points per game with his 36 point performance last Saturday against North Greenville University.
The Flying Fleet have a done a good job protecting the ball thus far in part due to the outstanding play of senior
Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School) at point guard. Erskine averages the fewest turnovers per game in the conference. Gabbard currently ranks second in the conference in assists to turnovers and is third overall in total assists despite missing three games due to an injury.
