Erskine loses to Belmont Abbey

Box Score Belmont, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (11-7, 5-4) lost to the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey (8-11, 4-5) 89 to 67 in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at the Wheeler Center.

At halftime Erskine held a one point lead at 37 to 36.  The Crusaders came out firing in the second half, shooting 54.5%, including a sizzling 8 of 14 from 3-point range. 

The Abbey reclaimed the lead early in the second half on a 10 to 5 run.  The Fleet got back to within two points but the Crusaders could not miss pushing their lead back to five then used a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Senior Chris Gore (Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Beach High School) continued his stellar play with his fifth double-double of the season and his second in a row, scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.  Sophomore Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) led the Fleet in scoring with a game-high 23 points.

For the Crusaders, Darryl Durham also recorded a double-double with team-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Chris Davis contributed 17 points and 8 assists in a strong supporting role.

Erskine's next game is not until next Wednesday, February 5th when the Fleet travel to Bristol, Tennessee to play King University.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
