Both the Erskine Women's and Men's basketball teams will return to conference play this Saturday as the North Greenville University Crusaders pay a visit to Due West. Game times are (w) 2:00 p.m. and (m) 4:00 p.m.
The Erskine women's team (5-4, 1-1) is coming off of a non-conference victory over Southern Wesleyan University on January 2nd, a game that they won 88 to 81. The Fleet currently own a three game winning streak. The Fleet were led in scoring by Kristin Giles career night of 33 points and Andrienne Bannerman's double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jana Dixon also contributed with a game-high 14 rebounds.
North Greenville's women's team (4-6, 0-2), who also own a three-game win streak, comes in looking to pick up their first conference victory. The Crusaders last game was back on December 14
th, also against Southern Wesleyan. The Crusaders slipped by the Warriors 78 to 76 and were powered by Alisha Hope and Timisty Nelson, who scored 21 and 20 points respectively.
Coming off of her career-high 33 points, Giles currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per game. Tara Potter, who missed Thursday's game due to injury, is back and leads the Fleet on the boards, averaging 8.1 rebounds per game while averaging double figures in scoring at11.1 points per game.
For the Crusaders, Tyler Powers leads the team in assists with 41 and averages 11.1 points per game. Powers is the Crusaders long-range threat, converting at 33% and taking more than 6 times as many shots from behind the arc than nearest team member. Timisty Nelson leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging over 16 points and 6 rebounds per game.
In the nightcap, the Erskine Men's team (6-4, 1-1) will face early conference leader, North Greenville (7-3, 2-0). This will be the first game for the Fleet since beating the Barton Bulldogs back on December 7
th 87 to 72. Roderick Perkins led the Fleet in scoring that night with 26 points while three teammates, Jake Haslam, Mike Gabbard, and Maurice Daniels, all reached double figures in scoring as well.
North Greenville comes to Due West after a road loss to Division I opponent USC-Upstate 94 to 61 on New Year's Eve.
Roderick Perkins enters Saturday's contest second in the conference in scoring at 24.6 points per game while Jake Haslam has reached double-figures the last three games and is second on team in scoring at 12.6 points per game.
The Crusaders are led by Keith Johnson's 17.5 points per game while teammate Phillip Brown has averaged a double-double thus far with 14.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
