Erskine knocks off preseason favorite Mount Olive 3-1

Box Score Mount Olive, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet knocked off preseason favorite the University of Mount Olive Trojans 3-1 (30-32, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20) this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action.

With the victory, Erskine remains undefeated and now stands atop the conference standings at 2-0.

Sophomore Mike Michelau (Trevor, WI, Westosha Central High School) posted his second double-double in a row with a game-high 25 kills and 14 digs.  Teammate Mike Kawa (Debica, Poland, Elk Grove High School) tallied a season-best 24 kills along with 9 digs and 6 blocks.  Setter Corey Marks (Southwest Ranches, FL, Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School) established a new career-high with 66 assists.

The Trojans were led by Angel Dache's 20 kills.  Teammate Lewis Einarson had a strong game as well with 13 kills on just 17 attempts. 

In the first set, UMO had game point on the Flying Fleet at 24 to 20.  Erskine fought off game point to eventually take a 25 to 24 lead.  The lead exchanged hands several more times until the Trojans prevailed 32 to 30.  After that, Erskine never trailed again winning the next three sets to win the match.

Erskine travels to Emmanuel College on Tuesday.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
