Erskine's streak ends at six; loses to hot-shooting Limestone 76 to 65

Box Score Gaffney, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (11-5, 5-2) could not slow down a hot shooting Limestone College (11-6, 3-4), losing 76 to 65 tonight in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at the Timkin Center.

The loss snapped the Fleet's six-game winning streak, their longest win streak since becoming a NCAA Division II member in 1995.

Limestone shot a blistering 14 of 20 from the floor (70%), including 8 of 13 from long range, to pull away from the Fleet in the second half.  For the game, Limestone connected on 25 of 45 (55.6%) while Erskine shot a respectable 21 of 56 from the floor (37.5%).

In the first half, the Flying Fleet overcame an eight point deficit with a little over four minutes remaining to draw within one at intermission.   After senior Jake Haslam (Lithia, FL, Tampa Preparatory School) fed sophomore Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) for a quick jumper,  the Fleet forced back-to-back Saints' turnovers.  Haslam stole the ball and sent it forward to Perkins, who hit one of his two 3-pointers in the game, to trim the Saints lead to two points.  After forcing the second Saint turnover, seniorMike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School) nailed a 3-pointer to give the Fleet their first lead since the opening minutes of the game.  The Saints' P.J. Foster closed out the half with a 3-point basket to put the Saints on top 29 to 28 at halftime.

Limestone opened the second half going 4 of 5 from 3-point range to quickly build a thirteen point lead and never looked back, winning the game 76 to 65.

Perkins led the Fleet with 25 points and 6 rebounds and senior Chris Gore finished with 11 points.  Freshman Brandon Willkerson (Summerville, SC, Summerville High School) came off the bench to contribute a career-best 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Limestone was led by Foster's 35 points, who finished 11 of 18 from behind the arc.  Asaad Woods turned in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Erskine plays at home this Saturday against the Bulldogs of Barton College.  Erskine defeated Barton 87 to 72 back on December 7th to start their six-game win streak.  Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 7:30 p.m.
