Hendrix's layup extends Erskine's win streak to 3

Box Score Due West, S.C. – With just seven seconds remaining, freshman Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) drove the lane for a contested lane that gave the Erskine Flying Fleet a thrilling 57 to 56 victory over the University of Mount Olive Trojans tonight in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at Belk Arena.

The victory was the third in a row for the Flying Fleet, moving to them 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference.  The Trojans, who entered tonight with an identical record, drop to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in conference.

In a game that featured 20 lead changes, the Flying Fleet's largest lead was three points, coming on their first basket of the game, a 3-point shot by freshman Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School).

In the first half, Erskine overcame a six point deficit to pull within two points at halftime.  After UMO's Jasmine McDonald hit a 3-point shot to cap a 6-0 run by the Trojans, the Fleet responded with their best run of the game, scoring 8 unanswered points to take the lead for the first time since their first basket of the game.  The lead exchanged hands nine more times before the half with UMO taking a 29 to 27 lead into the locker room.

Although never trailing by more than five points in the second half, the Fleet did not grab their first lead of the half until the twelve minute mark when junior Haleigh Spaulding (Ocala, FL, Vanguard High School) converted on two free throws and followed it up with a 3-pointer after a Trojan turnover.  Spaulding finished with 9 points on the night.

With neither team leading by more than two points, the outcome remained in doubt until the final twenty seconds.  The Trojans' Joneiqua Gray penetrated the lane for a runner to put the Trojans up one with 17 seconds remaining.   After Hendrix's layup, Gray again drove the lane but this time her shot rolled out, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Erskine got a balanced scoring effort with eight players scoring a basket, led by Hendrix's 18 points.  She was the only Fleet player to reach double-figures.  Sophomore Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Trojans had three players reach double-digits, led by McDonald's double-double of 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.  Kate Paschel had team-honors finishing with 15 points while teammate Kirksten Mitchell contributed 10 points.

Erskine goes on the road for their next two games before returning home on January 25th.  This Saturday the Fleet travel to Misenheimer, North Carolina, to battle the Falcons of Pfeiffer University.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
