Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet picked up their tenth win of the season, downing the University of Mount Olive Trojans 77 to 64 tonight in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at Belk Arena.
Freshman
Maurice Daniels, Jr. (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) came off the bench to spark a 13-0 run and give the Fleet an eleven point lead they would never relinquish. Following a 3-pointer by John Weiland of Mount Olive, Daniels scored the game's next six points to ignite the Fleet run. Daniels first hit his only 3-point shot of the game and followed it up with an old-fashioned three-point play, drawing the foul as he drove to the bucket. Daniels finished with a career-high 15 points.
The Trojans drew within four by halftime but the Fleet pushed their lead back to double-digits to open the second half. The closest the Trojans got in the second half was 8 points.
Sophomore
Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) led the Fleet with 35 points. The 6'5 wing went 11 of 25 from the floor, including a sizzling 7 of 16 from long-range. He also had 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals in filling up the stat sheet.
Senior point guard
Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School) bested his counterpart on the night, finishing with 17 points and 4 assists while committing just one turnover. The Trojans' Dory Hines, who entered the game two assists ahead of Gabbard for the conference lead, finished with 4 points and 3 assists. He also committed just one turnover. Hines did have a co-team-high 11 rebounds.
Dontrell Brite led the Trojans with 12 points while Jordan McCain had 11 points.
Erskine has now won their last five games, their longest win streak since the 2008-2009 season. A win on Saturday against the Falcons of Pfeiffer University will give the Fleet their longest win streak since joining the NCAA Division II ranks back in 1995. Game time on Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m.
