Erskine to host basketball double-header Saturday

The Erskine basketball teams both take to the court this Saturday.  The Converse Valkyries come to town for a women's conference matchup while the men's squad takes on a non-conference foe in the Allen University Yellow Jackets. Game times are (w) 2:00 p.m. and (m) 4:00 p.m.

The Erskine women's team (6-5, 2-2) is coming off a conference loss on the road this past Wednesday versus Lees-McRae College, a game that they lost 75 to 74.  The loss for Erskine ended a four game winning streak.  The Fleet trailed the majority of the contest and were unable to pull it out down the stretch, failing to score on their final three possessions.  Erskine was led in scoring by Raygon Hendrix (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Andrienne Bannerman (15 points, 13 rebounds).

Converse (0-12, 0-4) comes in looking to pick up their first win of the season.  Dating back to the 2011 season, Converse is currently on a 43 game losing streak.  The Valkyries last game was on Wednesday against Limestone, losing 77-38.  They were led in scoring by Kassidy Moorhouse with 10 points and Jenna White with 9 points.

Since coming back from the break, Bannerman has played sensational for Erskine, with two double-doubles in the stat sheet.  Kristin Giles is another Fleet player to keep an eye on as she comes in averaging 15.1 points per game to lead the team.

In the second game of the day, the Erskine Men's team (8-4, 3-1) will face a non-conference opponent in the Allen University Yellow Jackets (3-9). In the Fleet's last game, they beat the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Wednesday 89-72.  Roderick Perkins led the Fleet in scoring that night with 31 points while Mike Gabbard (16 points), Maurice Daniels (14 points), and Chris Gore (10 points) also contributed in the victory.

Roderick Perkins enters Saturday's contest leading the conference in scoring at 26.2 points per game while Chris Gore has played sensational in the last two games, averaging 10 points and 12 rebounds in those contests.
