Rock Hill, S.C. – Junior Marlee Rhodes ran a career-best 19:30 to lead the Erskine Women's Cross Country Team to a ninth place finish at the Winthrop Open held at the Winthrop Farm.
Rhodes (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) finished 11
th overall in the deep 11-team field. Vicky Winslow of Alabama-Huntsville won the event with a time of 17:53, a good thirty seconds ahead of Shorter's Shea Spicher.
Sophomore
Amelia Chassevent (Fountain Inn, SC, Insights on Education), who is working back from an off-season injury, shaved thirty seconds off her time from last week's race to finish 32
nd overall (20:51). Senior
Rachel Whitmire (Pendleton, SC, T.L. Hanna High School) came in 50
th place (21:59), followed by junior
Chelsea Ball (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) in 60
th place (22:43). Freshman
Abigail Butler (Summerville, SC) rounded out the scoring for the Fleet finishing in 72
nd place, just four seconds ahead of sophomore
April Bussey (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School).
Alabama-Huntsville easily won the team competition with 28 points. Shorter finished second with 100 points, eight points ahead of Emmanuel.
Erskine will run next Saturday at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational.
