Due West, S.C. – Erskine fell to conference-leading Coker 7-2 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex.
With the match tied at 1-1, Erskine’s
Dean Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) lost a closely contested match at #2 doubles 9-7. Erskine entered the singles matches trailing 2 to 1.
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) picked up the Fleet’s lone singles win, downing his opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Mathewes has now won four of his last five singles matches and holds the Fleet’s best record at 11-6.
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and Pearce lost their two singles matches in three sets. West bounced back to win his second set but lost the third set 6-2. Pearce won his first set but was edged in the second set 7-5 and dropped the third set 6-2.
Erskine hosts Limestone on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
