Anderson, S.C. – After being postponed three times due inclement weather, Erskine and Anderson finally squared off with the Trojans prevailing 6 to 3 over the Flying Fleet in men’s tennis action at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
Junior
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and sophomore
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School)combined to score all three of the Fleet’s points. The two gentlemen teamed up to win at #1 doubles 8 to 5. In their respective singles matches, West outlasted Daniel Gonzalez 7-5, 7-5 to win at #1 singles while Mathewes also won his match in straight sets at #2 singles.
Unfortunately, the Fleet could not win at any of the other positions. Freshman
Dean Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) won his first set but dropped his next two sets to lose the #3 singles match.
The Fleet enters this week’s conference tournament as the #6 seed and will face the Trojans of Mount Olive College in the opening round on Friday. In their matchup earlier this season, Mt. Olive College won 7 to 2.
