Erskine wins two on Spring Break Trip

Hilton Head, S.C. – Playing at Hilton Head, South Carolina, last Thursday, Erskine downed St. Thomas University and SUNY-Oneata 6-3 and 6-3 to even their overall record at 7-7.

In their first match against St. Thomas, freshman Alan Pearce won his two tightly contested matches to propel the Fleet to a 6-3 victory.  Erskine won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead.  Jack West and Wilson Mathewes defeated Brian McCarthy and Mitchell Blakely 8-5 while Dean Harris and Alan Pearce won 7-3 in the tie-breaker to win their match 9-8.

In the six singles matches, Erskine was victorious at the top four seeds, winning three in straight sets.   After dropping his first set, Pearce won his second set by defeating Brady Radermacher 7-3 in the tie-breaker to win 7-6.  The final set was also closely contested with Pearce winning it 10-8.

Later that afternoon, Erskine squared off against SUNY-Oneata winning by the same score 6-3.  Erskine again won two close doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead.

In the six singles matches, Jack West and Aaron Twitty both prevailed in three sets to pick up two key points for Erskine.  West won his second set in a tie-breaker before winning the final set 10-7.  Twitty also overcame a first set loss to win his next two sets to win his match.  Both Mathewes and Harris won in straight sets for the other two points for Erskine.

Erskine returns to action tomorrow against USC-Aiken starting at 2:30 p.m.
